Design is my profession, but I’m a maker at heart. Outside of work, I had fun with various creative projects.

The UX Learner’s Guidebook

I wrote a book to help new UX learners grasp the fundamentals and high-level framework of design. It got picked up and translated by a Japanese publisher. (Off the shelf currently, pending revision.)

The printed paperback of The UX Learner's Guidebook, subtitled "A Ramp and Reference for Aspiring UX Designers", by Chad Camara and Yujia Zhao, lying on a wooden table. The Japanese edition of The UX Learner's Guidebook, titled UXデザインのやさしい教本 and published by MdN, lying beside an open copy showing a spread of Japanese text.

Bilingual children’s books

I also wrote Chinese-English bilingual children's picture books to help my own kid and other children learn Chinese culture and language.

A smiling boy in a red scarf rides a golden dragon over a riverside village at night, holding a lantern beneath the full moon and fireworks.Cover of the bilingual children's book 熊先生分芒果, Mr. Bear Shares Mangoes. A smiling bear in a blue cap and striped shirt holds a basket of mangoes on a grassy hill, framed by mango leaves.

Watercolour illustrations

I also enjoy doing illustrations — in physical and digital media.

A watercolour painting of a blue crab, claws raised, in washes of blue and green on white paper, with a few small shells and pebbles scattered around it.A watercolour and ink painting of the Star Wars character Boba Fett in his green and red helmet and armour, aiming a blaster, with a jetpack on his back.
